Holiday and Special days of holiday

The new Danish Holiday Act (Ferieloven) entered into force on 1 September 2020.

You will find the holiday rules in the Danish Holiday Act and the State Holiday Agreement. Special days of holiday are regulated by the State Holiday Agreement.

The holiday agreement is based on the Danish Holiday Act. However, the Danish Holiday Act provides some options for derogation by collective agreement, and such exceptions are incorporated into the holiday agreement. With a few exceptions, the holiday agreement covers all employees at DTU, including foreign employees and trainees.

If you are an hourly paid employee (this will be stated in your employment contract), your holidays are governed only by the Danish Holiday Act, unless you are entitled to full pay during illness.

If you are entitled to full pay during illness, you are also covered by the provisions on special days of holiday.

Your entitlement to pay during illness depends on the terms of your employment and is stated in your employment contract.
