Living Within Earth's Limits: Navigating Complexity in Underground Systems.

The Earth beneath our feet is increasingly expected to meet society's growing demands for resources, storage, and environmental solutions. Yet responsible utilisation depends on understanding the complex interplay of thermal, hydraulic, mechanical, and biogeochemical processes that govern underground systems. This lecture explores how deeper insight into these processes can reduce uncertainty, inform decisions, and help balance what we seek from the Earth with what it can provide.
