The Light Rail Arrives at DTU: Join the Grand Opening on 22 August

When the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail opens, there will be ample opportunity to explore technology, experiments and experiences along the route.

On Saturday, 22 August 2026, the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail will open along its full route between Ishøj and Lundtofte. DTU Lyngby Campus will mark the occasion with activities at all three light rail stations on campus: Rævehøjvej, Anker Engelunds Vej and Akademivej.

Travel on the light rail will be free throughout the day.

At Anker Engelunds Vej, visitors can see DTU RoadRunners' award-winning eco-car, which won gold at Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2025, and take part in interactive exhibits and hands-on experiments together with DTU students.

At Akademivej, the student project Vermilion Racing will showcase its latest Formula Student race car, and visitors can try the team's racing simulator. The student project DTU RAVEN will also demonstrate autonomous robots and drones.

At Rævehøjvej, visitors can enjoy performances by the DTU International Choir, browse the flea market and sample Japanese and Korean street food.

During the day, DTU President Anders Bjarklev will officially mark the arrival of the light rail on campus at a special inauguration ceremony.

The Celebration Continues Across the Capital Region

The day culminates in a large public celebration at Gladsaxe Town Hall, where DTU ScienceShow will entertain audiences with spectacular physics and chemistry demonstrations for the whole family.

There is also an opportunity to take part in a 5 km fun run along the light rail route, starting at DTU and finishing in central Lyngby.
