Major construction activity in the southern part of the DTU Lyngby Campus: Please be aware of traffic conditions
Road users may encounter changed traffic conditions and an increased number of heavy vehicles in the coming period, particularly on Akademivej, Kollegiebakken, and Elektrovej. For safety reasons, please be extra cautious when traveling in the area.
Several exciting construction projects are underway in the southern part of Lyngby, where DTU is, among other things, expanding its research facilities for DTU Space and DTU Nanolab. This means that in the coming period, there will be more heavy vehicles than usual, including trucks carrying construction materials. At the same time, there will be changes to traffic conditions for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
We urge everyone at DTU to be extra vigilant and follow the signs when moving around campus in the coming period—and to pass this information on to our new students who have just started.
Specific construction activities and traffic conditions
- See the attached map for an overview
Closure of Akademivej (east)
The eastern section of Akademivej toward Lundtoftegårdsvej will be closed to general vehicle traffic for the next few months, and heavy vehicles will be traveling through the area periodically.
Pedestrians and cyclists can use the gravel path and the tunnel connecting the eastern section of Akademivej with Lundtoftegårdsvej.
DTU Nanolab (Building 346A): Closure of Ørsteds Plads, heavy traffic via Kollegiebakken, and changes to walking, biking, and driving conditions
There will be a significant amount of heavy traffic traveling via Kollegibakken to and from Akademivej in connection with the construction of DTU Nanolab. Pedestrian traffic has therefore been rerouted locally and will be indicated by signage in the area. Among other things, it is important that you use the stairs instead of the sidewalk along Akademivej when coming from the Akademivej light rail station. This means you will have the bastion wall on your right as you climb the stairs. And, of course, vice versa when heading in the opposite direction.
Ørsteds Plads is part of the construction site and will remain closed to traffic and parking. (Deliveries, service vehicles, and emergency vehicles are exempt.)
On the road between Ørsteds Plads and Building 358, a speed limit has also been implemented for motor vehicle traffic.
DTU Space (Building 330): Heavy Traffic
In connection with the expansion of DTU Space, large and heavy modular transport vehicles will be traveling along Elektrovej from August through November 2026.
Construction activities at B330 are expected to run from February 2026 through mid-2028. During this period, the area west of Buildings 328 and 329 between Elektrovej and Fysikvej will be closed off.
