DTU continues to achieve a steady and consistent increase in Open Access publishing, publishing with free and unrestricted online access. Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science has just released this year's Open Access Indicator, and DTU has secured first place.

The proportion of DTU publications published as Open Access has risen to 83.4% this year, representing an increase of 1 percentage point from last year's 82.4%.

Open Access agreements

This progress can be partly attributed to increased awareness and use of the favorable publishing agreements available to DTU researchers.

Through these agreements, researchers can publish Open Access in a range of journals either free of charge or with discounted article processing charges (APCs), and without embargo periods.

We take this opportunity to highlight these agreements and the guidance that DTU Library can provide. DTU's portfolio of agreements includes everything from smaller scholarly societies to broad national agreements with major publishers. The agreements cover all the research disciplines represented at DTU.

Achieve Open Access through your post-print

Send the post-print version of your scientific articles to DTU Library. There is significant untapped Open Access potential here, as many publishers allow the "parallel publishing" of the post-print version (the Author Accepted Manuscript, AAM) in the university's research database, DTU Orbit. This makes the post-print version of the article available as Open Access.

Importantly, a post-print version of a scientific article has already been through the peer review process. However, please be aware that publication of a post-print is often delayed by an embargo period imposed by the publisher. As a result, the post-print cannot always satisfy funders' requirements for immediate Open Access.

DTU Library handles the registration of post-prints in DTU Orbit and ensures that copyright requirements and any embargo periods are respected. In this way, we can make the remaining 316 publications Open Access and move closer to 100% Open Access for DTU's research publications.

Follow Open Access Figures Continuously - for DTU, departments, and sections

DTU Library continuously monitors DTU's Open Access figures with data from DTU Orbit. We have integrated Open Access statistics for DTU publications into the DTU Research Output Statistics system, which you can find via DTU Findit. The statistics are designed to monitor and document input for the department’s annual Strategic Plan.
