“Yes, it was certainly inspiring and highlighted important dimensions of student participation that we need to explore further. The work does not stop here.” says Vice Dean of Education, Jens Øllgaard Duus.

Over two and a half days, colleagues from across DTU came together to explore the nature of student participation and developed the ultimate equation.

Framed as a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning seminar, this year’s summer school examined student participation from multiple dimensions and perspectives. By critically reflecting on how our assumptions about participation shape educational practice, participants engaged in rich discussions and collaborative inquiry, helping to sharpen our common focus on what matters most for student learning and engagement.

• Three students attended a panel debate at the summer school and added insightful, valuable and appreciated perspectives to the discussions.
• The key finding of student participation was that next to meaning, motivation, trust, relevance, curiosity, community, safe and brave spaces - elements like exam, generative AI and how we structure semesters also need to be taking into the equation of student participation.

During the autumn term we will invite students, heads of departments, head of studies, members of study boards and other stakeholders for follow-up meetings on major findings and perspectives of the summer school.
