Nursery, Daycare, Kindergarten

In Denmark, if you have a child aged 6 months to 6 years, you have the possibility as a parent to choose between different types of childcare for your child. The prices can vary from municipality to municipality. You can find the different prices for childcare on the homepage of the municipality where you are living.

There is a variety of childcare options available for children aged 0–6:

• Nursery: 6 months to 3 years (institution)
• Daycare: 6 months to 3 years (private day care)
• Kindergarten: 3 years to 6 years (institution)

School
The year your child turns 6 years, they are entitled to an education provided by the State. Your child needs to live in Denmark and have a valid residence permit or EU residence document and a Danish CPR number (personal identification no.). You need to sign your child up for a state school in order to get a place for your child. Please read more on the right-hand side. You can also read more on your local municipality homepage.

In addition to state schools, there are a number of private schools and some international schools in Denmark. Attendance at these schools carries a fee and the cost can vary considerably. Please contact your HR consultant for further information or contact the private school directly to make enquiries.

Some schools, such as the Copenhagen International School, offer limited, need-based financial assistance for parents who are employed on a temporary contract in Denmark. Please contact the Copenhagen International School directly for such enquiry.

When your child leaves friends and family behind in order to move to Denmark, he or she may experience a real sense of loss and sadness.
