Posting Rules and Advertisement
The posting of scientific staff (VIP) positions is regulated by the Executive Order on the Employment of Scientific Staff at Universities, which came into force on 1 April 2012.
Decision-Making Authority
Positions below salary grade 37 may be decided at department level.
Positions at salary grade 37 and above must be approved by the President and the HR Director.
Positions in Administration, including Campus Service and Finance Centres, must be approved by the University Director.
Obligation to Post
As a general rule, all positions must be publicly posted, at a minimum on DTU Jobs and Careers.
In addition, all PhD positions are automatically advertised on www.jobindex.dk and www.jobnet.dk.
Contact your HR consultant if you wish to advertise elsewhere.
Job postings must be publicly available for at least 14 days.
Exceptions to Posting Requirements
- Employment for up to one year does not require a posting. Re-employment for up to one year may also occur without posting, provided the candidate is deemed academically qualified. See Assessment without job posting.
- Foreign employees at professor or associate professor level may be employed for up to two years without posting and re-employed for an additional year (§9).
- If funding is granted to a named individual by foundations, councils, or non-governmental donors, and at least half of the funds are earmarked for that person, posting is not required. The candidate must still be academically assessed. See Assessment without job posting.
- Transition from assistant professor/researcher to associate professor/senior researcher does not require posting if the candidate is deemed academically qualified.
A committee may explore the market for candidates at professor or associate professor level.
If a particularly qualified candidate is identified, an assessment committee with a majority of external members must be appointed.
If the candidate is clearly more qualified than others, the President may offer employment without posting (direct appointment).
