Important security update for browsers – this is why you need to restart

Restart your web browser to complete an important security update for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

The web browsers Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have received an important security update, and therefore you need to restart your web browsers.

The security update was released because both browsers were affected by a serious vulnerability that could allow hackers to take control of a computer by luring the user to a malicious website.

How to do it:

  1. Close all open browser windows.
  2. Open the browser again.

When you do this, the browser will automatically update to the newest, secure version. It takes less than a minute and can prevent serious security breaches – so please do it as soon as possible.

Make it a good habit:

Your web browsers and programs update themselves when you close and reopen them. Therefore, it is a good habit to:

  • Close and reopen your browsers and programs at least once a week.
  • Restart your computer when it asks you to.

Small actions like these help strengthen DTU’s cyber and information security. You can read more about how to protect yourself and DTU’s data here.
