The cap for free Open Access publishing with Taylor & Francis for 2026 has been reached
Danish universities have made good use of the Taylor & Francis Open Access agreement this year. It appears that the cap of 500 articles that can be published free of charge under the agreement will be reached around the beginning of July.
Once the annual quota has been used up, no further discounts will be granted on Open Access publishing costs (APCs).
EU’s Horizon Europe framework programme
If you have research funding from the EU’s Horizon Europe framework programme or another Plan S-aligned funder, you should be aware that Open Access is a requirement, and that APC costs in hybrid journals cannot be covered by the grant. The current agreement with Taylor & Francis covers only hybrid journals, and once the limited quota has been used, APC costs cannot be paid by Horizon Europe or another Plan S funder.
The cap
Even if the cap has not yet been reached at the time of manuscript submission, it is not possible to know whether the APC for publication will be covered by the agreement. This is because the APC is only covered once the manuscript has been finally accepted for publication. If the cost is not covered by the agreement, the corresponding author is responsible for paying the APC.
