Surface disinfection
Use and application
Surface disinfection/cleaning is a method for limiting the spread of infection. Plain water, soapy, and surface disinfectant can be used— all of these methods will be effective, but to different degrees.
The product is used for wiping off surfaces such as tables, seats, and contact points.
Remember that when cleaning IT equipment, you must always follow IT’s guidelines.
A cloth moistened with water will reduce the number of microorganisms, but not render them inactive. A surface wiped with surface disinfectant will also inactivate microorganisms, but this involves chemical action.
Criteria for choosing a product
- The surface disinfectant must be biologically active against microorganisms—otherwise there is no need to use a disinfectant. This is a mandatory requirement. Ask the supplier for documentation showing the product's effectiveness in inactivating microorganism.
- The surface disinfectant must be as little harmful to humans and the environment as possible (according to a chemical risk assessment).
- The product must be gentle on surfaces—ask the supplier.
- Perfume/colours: It is recommended to choose products without perfume and colour, as they are regarded as unnecessary and potentially allergenic/harmful
- Special consideration should be given to pregnant/breastfeeding women and allergy sufferers.
Economic/practical
- There must be security of supply for the product (or an equivalent alternative).
- If two products are considered to be of equal quality, you should choose the more affordable option.
- The product is applied as a spray. This limits the amount used and ensures good surface distribution.

Information about Oxivir Excel Foam
Oxivir Excel is a combined cleaner and disinfectant. This means that very dirty surfaces can be hygienically cleaned and subsequently disinfected using the same product. For surfaces that look clean at first glance but have not been cleaned very recently, Oxivir Excel can be used as a cleaner and disinfectant in a one-step procedure.
Oxivir Excel has been documented as effective against a number of different organisms and through various tests. To get the full benefit of Oxivir Excel for all the different types of microorganisms and under all conditions, a contact time of 5 minutes is recommended.
Oxivir Excel has been tested by EN 14476 and found to have full virucidal efficacy at a contact time of 30 seconds.
In connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, it was established according to the Danish Health Authority’s recommendations that ordinary cleaning with soap and water is sufficient in most cases, but it can be supplemented with subsequent disinfection following a specific assessment based on a precautionary principle.
By using a product that combines cleaning and disinfection, the cleaning effect of the product will reduce the risk of contact infection with Covid-19, also in cases where the recommended contact time is not observed. Any residual moisture will still provide increased safety as a result of the disinfecting effect.
Application
- Remove all loose dirt and waste.
- Apply Oxivir Excel foam either by spraying directly onto the surface or by spraying onto a cloth or paper.
- Wipe the surface with a cloth or paper so that the product is applied to the whole surface and excess liquid is collected.
- Leave the surface slightly moist. After an action time of 30 seconds, any virus that remains after cleaning will have been inactivated.
If the surface is directly dirty, Oxivir Excel Foam is used as a traditional cleaning agent. The disinfection process may be repeated for added safety.
