DTU Inside – a new optimized version
A new version of DTU Inside is being launched as part of the consolidation of DTU's web platform, and to build on the optimisations of DTU's externally facing websites in recent years.
Why is DTU Inside being upgraded?
- DTU Inside needs editorial revision. The site must be streamlined and more focused.
- The “Teaching tab” was developed in close relation to CampusNet, which has long since been replaced by DTU Learn. The student user experience needs to be improved.
- Parts of the technical foundation are based on outdated technology from the former intranet “Portalen,” which causes performance issues for all websites on the platform.
The main new initiatives will be:
- Placing the majority of general content on open sites without login.
- This ensures transparency around internal information, creating a branding potential in relation to recruiting both employees and students.
- It also ensures accessibility for search tools and AI tools.
- Selected content elements (pages or files) can be hidden from users without DTU login (i.e. “employees and students only”).
- Ensuring clarity by differentiating content into smaller clusters.
- A main site with general content for everyone, supplemented by subsites for defined academic or organizational clusters (e.g. department sites).
- Referring restricted content for specific target groups to tools such as Teams, SharePoint, and network drives (when access limitations stricter than “all employees and students” are required).
- Establishing an editorially curated front page.
- Editorial coherence with newsletter and dtu.dk.
- Greater focus on navigation and searchability.
- Editorially selected posts from social media.
- A new improved announcement platform with the possibility of securely sending notification emails.
- A searchable A–Z index of content, serving as a supplement to the navigation architecture (similar to what is found at medarbejder.au.dk).
- A new information architecture – along with cleanup (in collaboration with the administrative departments).
A three-stage restructuring
Although DTU Inside is today “only” one website among hundreds on the web platform, it is by far the largest and most complex. To ensure a manageable migration process, a three-stage restructuring is planned:
- Students are the first target group: Content from the teaching tab on DTU Inside will be moved to a new student-oriented site (student.dtu.dk).
- The general content will be reorganized into a new structure. AKM, together with the administrative departments, will define the new structure and prepare the launch of the new DTU Inside.
When the general content goes live on the new inside.dtu.dk, the local pages on Inside will initially be redirected to a new address: inside-local.dtu.dk. - Local content (from departments and administrative units) will be migrated unit by unit. Here, it will also be determined whether there is a need for an Inside subsite, or whether a SharePoint or Teams solution is more suitable.
Preliminary timeline:
- Stage 1: 25 February 2025
- Stage 2: November 2025
- Stage 3: agreed locally (starting January 2026)
