Quiz in DTU Learn
Quizzes in DTU Learn can be used to activate students online asynchronously. They give students an opportunity to engage with the course material at their own pace and to identify what they understand, and where they need to work further.
A quiz does not only have to be about right or wrong answers. It can also be part of the students’ learning process. When students answer questions, they have to actively engage with concepts, methods, or connections in the course. This can strengthen their preparation, support repetition, and help them gain a better sense of where they stand academically.
For the teacher, quizzes can provide quick insight into how students are working with the material. If many students struggle with the same question, it may be a sign that a topic needs further explanation, feedback, or follow-up in class. In this way, quiz results can be used as a basis for adjusting the teaching and focusing on the areas where students need the most support.
Quizzes can be used at several points during a course. Here are three examples:
- Before a teaching session, they can help students come better prepared for a lecture, exercise class, or laboratory session.
- During the course, they can be used to reinforce important points and check whether students are ready to move on to the next topic.
- After a completed topic or activity, they can support repetition and help students assess what they should review.
For a quiz to support learning, feedback is important. It does not have to be long, but it should help students move forward. This could be a short explanation, a reference to relevant material, or a short follow-up session in class if many students have had difficulties with the same question.
A good quiz is often simple, with a small number of clearly formulated questions. The most important thing is that the questions align with what the students are expected to learn and that the feedback helps them understand how to improve and move forward.
