European Research Council - ERC

The European Research Council (ERC) is a bottom up funding scheme, for researchers who are excellent in their field and with visionary research projects in mind.

Scientific excellence is the sole criterion of evaluation for ERC projects - the excellence of the PI and the excellence of the project.

ERC also supports technical research, but focus should still be on the science (e.g. the important scientific challenge to be solved). Research Support DTU assists with all the grant types below:

ERC is divided into six different grant types:

  • Starting Grants, 2-7 years after PhD
  • Consolidator Grants, 7-12 years after PhD
  • Advanced Grants for senior research leaders with significant research achievements in the last 10 years
  • Plus Grants for an excellent researcher and undisputed leader of their research field
  • Synergy Grant for 2-4 principal investigators who jointly address ambitious research problems that could not be addressed by the individual PIs and their teams working alone
  • Proof of Concept Grants for ERC grant holders
