Senior employees

Objective

DTU wishes to retain dedicated, well-qualified, performance-oriented staff for the entire duration of their employment.

In support of that aim, it is possible to adjust the duties and terms of employment of senior employees, taking into account DTU staffing requirements.

The object of the senior employee policy is to lay down the frameworks for such adjustments.

The policy is intended to promote:

  • good working conditions for senior employees for the remainder of their working lives
  • senior employees’ resources being used most expediently
  • retention of the relevant knowledge and experience possessed by senior employees
  • assurance that senior employees’ decision to retire from employment has a well-informed basis
  • support and guidance for senior officers and employees regarding the options for making the best possible arrangements for the latter years of employment.

Roles and responsibility

Senior employees’ working conditions may be discussed at any time and the annual employee appraisal is a good place to begin. During the appraisal session, the immediate superior and senior employee may find it appropriate to discuss competence development and the terms of the employment, including job content, responsibilities and working hours. The discussion may also reveal a planned retirement date.

If the need arises, an individual plan may be drawn up for the employee’s future career at DTU. In such cases, a follow-up employee appraisal session should be held approx. six months after the ordinary annual employee appraisal.

The immediate superior is responsible for inviting the employee to a senior employee session.

Senior employee agreements

A senior employee agreement is an individual agreement between DTU and a senior employee on work and employment conditions. The agreement is prepared on the basis of the agreement in force regarding senior employees and retirement schemes of the parties of the collective agreements. The financial terms are agreed with the employee and are formalized by the relevant trade union representative.

The immediate superior holding the employee appraisal will assess in each individual case whether a senior employee agreement is to be concluded with an employee. The Office of HR will advise the superior on how to prepare the agreement.

DTU is reluctant to conclude agreements on a monthly day off with pay for employees over 62 years of age.

Entry into force

The policy for senior employees was approved by the Executive Board and discussed by the Cooperation and Joint Consultation Committee (HSU) in March 2017.

The policy becomes effective from the time it is published on DTU Inside.

Amendments

The policy may be amended at three months' notice following review by the Cooperation and Joint Consultation Committee. Amendments are communicated via DTU Inside.
