Tips about alumni groups on LinkedIn
LinkedIn regularly changes its setup, but currently, groups can either be open/"listed" (anyone can freely join, and the group is visible to everyone on LinkedIn) or closed/"unlisted" (membership requires approval, and the group can only be found via a direct link or by being invited by a group administrator or another group member).
Make sure to include a link to the group on relevant websites and in messages to relevant students/alumni - especially if your group is closed.
Also, feel free to refer to DTU's broad alumni network, DTU Alumni – www.alumni.dtu.dk.
Please also inform us about your group so we can include it in the overview of LinkedIn groups for DTU alumni.
Local LinkedIn groups for alumni should preferably be seen as a supplement to alumni also registering at http://www.alumni.dtu.dk/, so we can collect email addresses and other relevant information (phone number, job info, newsletter subscription, etc.) in DTU's common alumni database, which benefits the entire DTU.
Remember to add a good group description and group rules. You are welcome to be inspired by the texts below that were used for a main DTU Alumni group which is now closed.
This is the official group for alumni from DTU – Technical University of Denmark. Former exchange students as well as current students and employees can also join the group.
The DTU Alumni group gives you the chance to reconnect with old friends, build up your professional network, and stay updated with news and events from DTU. Content can be in both Danish and English. Feel free to post in the group, but please read the group rules first.
Please note: You will not be accepted as a member of this group unless we can see from your LinkedIn profile that you're either a current or former student or employee from DTU.
We also ask that you register as a member on our alumni portal www.alumni.dtu.dk if you haven't already done so. If you aren't already a member, we may ask you for your e-mail address so we can add it to our alumni member database and activate your membership.
Be kind, polite and respectful to other members. Communicate the way you would like others to communicate with you.
We reserve the right to delete posts that do not contribute to the purpose of the group, contain spam or are offensive. Members who break the group rules may receive a warning, but repeat violators will lose their posting rights and can be removed and/or blocked from the group.
