Laboratory ergonomics

There are many parallels with office ergonomics.

Please note that using a mouse and frequent pipetting can cause the same injuries, so varying between these two activities is not always sufficient.

The greatest sources of ergonomic strain in laboratories are:

  • Monotonous repetitive work—such as pipetting
  • Work involving repetitive strain—such as handling screw and snap lids
  • Work above shoulder height
  • Work in awkward positions
  • Heavy lifting
