Trainees in laboratories
Guidelines:
- A plan must be made for the trainees visit. The plan must be risk evaluated and there has to be a “chemical workplace evaluation” for the entire stay.
- Furthermore there has to be safety sheets for use of all dangerous chemicals which the trainee comes in contact with.
A thorough introduction to fume hoods, eye washing equipment, use of laboratory coat and goggles must be given to the trainee. The trainee is not allowed to work alone in the laboratory.
The trainee must not independently handle substances that can have acute risk. These are clarified as toxic - , explosive – and extremely flammable substances, corrosive acids and bases or other health hazardous substances.
If these are necessary for the planned activities then they must be handled by trained personnel with the trainee as a bystander.
