Inaugural lecture by Professor Elizaveta Semenova: "Next-Generation Devices: What and How?"
DTU Electro is pleased to invite all interested parties to celebrate newly appointed professor, Elizaveta Semenova.
In her inaugural lecture Professor Semenova will discuss advances in the area of quantum and nano photonic devices and show specific highlights from the work done at DTU.
Her inaugural lecture will take place on: Thursday 8 October 2026 from 15:00 to 16:00

Summary
Fundamental advances in materials science have historically underpinned every major technological breakthrough. Today, the requirements placed on materials for quantum technologies and nanophotonics are significantly more stringent than in previous technological eras. In this lecture, Semenova will discuss how epitaxial growth of III–V compound semiconductors and nanoscale fabrication enable novel nano and quantum photonic devices through precise control at the atomic scale of crystal structure, composition, strain, and geometry.
Elizaveta Semenova
Professor Elizaveta Semenova obtained her MSc from St. Petersburg State Technical University in 2001 and her PhD from the A.F. Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute, Russia in 2005. Following a postdoctoral appointment at CNRS, France, she joined DTU in 2009, where she progressed from postdoctoral researcher to professor. She pioneered a breakthrough method for realizing telecom C-band quantum dot light sources on GaAs, now adopted by several leading research groups worldwide. At DTU, she established new research directions in deterministic telecom C-band quantum light sources and monolithic integration of III–V devices with silicon photonics, helping position DTU among the international leaders in the field. Professor Semenova has secured multiple national and European research grants as PI and co-PI, currently serves as co-PI of the Danish National Research Foundation's Center of Excellence NanoPhoton and the EU project QPIC1550, and has published more than 110 scientific papers.
