Well-being

Well-being is the foundation for a good working environment

DTU’s management is responsible for the physical and psychological working environment for all staff groups, students, and guests at DTU. DTU’s university units work systematically on creating local working environments where everybody thrives. At DTU, the working environment is a shared responsibility among management, students, and the individual employee.

We talk about well-being at DTU

It is in the interest of all employees that we all thrive at DTU, and everybody has a shared responsibility for their own and others well-being. Dialogue about well-being is a fundamental part of our everyday working life, and it is both an essential part of good leadership and a prerequisite for a healthy working environment among colleagues.

All employees have a responsibility to speak openly about conditions that either promotes or hinders a healthy working environment. You can talk about your working environment during DTU Well-being Dialogues, but also during your everyday working life. At DTU, we expect all employees to actively cooperate but also give their leader constructive feedback. You are expected to cooperate and give feedback in the everyday dialogue, in connection with UMV and the Employee Development Dialogue (MUS), during the DTU Leadership Dialogue, at formal meetings, seminars, and at informal encounters, e.g., over a cup of coffee.

DTU is a university based on leadership

The formal responsibility for the working environment and the well-being of the employees rests with the management at DTU, cf. the Working Environment Policy. The leader has the responsibility to promote DTU’s working culture and to establish a work culture that supports dialogue and collaboration. In addition, it is the responsibility of the leader to pay a special attention to the well-being of the employee, both with regards to delegated tasks and the collaboration with the team. Since neither leaders nor employees single-handedly can create well-being , it is common practice that leaders and employees co-create a good working environment.

DTU has established a structure that provides an annual recurring focus on well-being and leadership. In odd-numbered years all units conduct DTU Well-being Dialogues, while even years are dedicated to DTU Leadership Dialogues. HSU and KAMU closely follow the organizations experience with dialogue-based work and pay special attention to the DTU Well-being Dialogues being carried out systematically, as they constitute the University’s’ psychological APV.
