Conflict resolution
Objective
The policy states how to handle and endeavor to prevent conflicts at DTU.
General
DTU considers conflicts a matter of course at large and diverse workplaces. Conflicts should be used as a platform for improving cooperation between the parties involved.
Conflicts that arise should be dealt with in a way that ensures that all parties involved are satisfied. Conflicts must always be taken seriously, even if only one party perceives there to be a conflict.
Preventing conflicts
A good work climate is a vital aspect of preventing unnecessary conflicts. Feedback and instructions should be communicated mainly from a learning and development perspective to ensure that the recipient feels communication is constructive.
All employees and senior officers at DTU are expected to actively participate in maintaining a good work culture and to be aware of potential conflicts.
When conflicts arise
The parties involved should act as soon as a conflict is identified. External parties may also initiate a process that endeavors to resolve the conflict.
Conflict resolution is a task for the individual senior officer, but the conflict should as far as possible be resolved between the implicated parties. If the parties are unable to resolve the conflict themselves, it is both legitimate and necessary that they request help from their immediate superior. The Office of HR may also be involved.
Everyone has a responsibility to demonstrate understanding for colleagues' different backgrounds and reactions.
