This approach aims at bringing together resources and knowledge across different fields from both industry and academia to gather a consortium around a brilliant project idea.
The collaborative projects covers a range of programme sections and is the core of research and innovation funding under Horizon Europe.

Within the collaborative projects, three different project types are available:
- Research and Innovation Action (RIA) – TRL* 3-5
- Innovation Action (IA) – TRL* 4-7
- Coordination and Support Action (CSA) – Capacity building and dissemination
