MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships support mobility, training and career development of postdoctoral fellows with a brilliant one-person project idea.

The MSCA programme is bottom up, so open to all research fields. And for researchers of any nationality. To apply you must have obtained your doctoral degree (PhD) (or have successfully defended your PhD thesis) before the application deadline – maximum PhD-age is 8 years at time of deadline.

Types of fellowships

  • European Postdoctoral Fellowships. These are for researchers moving within Europe or coming to Europe. The fellowships take place in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country and can last between 1 and 2 years. Researchers of any nationality can apply.
  • Global Postdoctoral Fellowships. They fund the mobility of researchers outside Europe. The fellowship lasts between 2 to 3 years, of which the first 1 to 2 years will be spent in a non-associated Third Country, followed by a mandatory return phase of 1 year to an organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Only nationals or long-term residents (>5 consecutive years) of the EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries can apply.

There is a mobility rule: Maximum 12 of last 36 months up to deadline in host country. You submit your application in cooperation with host institution (future supervisor) and resubmission rule applies meaning that you can only resubmit if you scored above a certain threshold in your previous application.

MSCA PF is a TRAINING programme – and the goal of the training is your career development:

  • Improved career prospects for the fellow through new research skills and transferable skills
  • Broader mind-set through international experience, interdisciplinary training and intersectoral mobility
  • Increased international network
  • Broad research and innovation impact through communication, dissemination, exploitation and outreach activities
  • Two-way transfer of knowledge between fellow and host

MSCA PF deadline is in mid-September every year.

You can find out more about MSCA-PF grants at the MSCA website, or contact us for more information whether you will come to DTU or to go on a research stay abroad.
