Background
Denmark has signed international binding treaty that requires us to actively implement measures to counter the development, manufacture and proliferation of biological weapons and expertise.
The Government has as part of a terrorist package decided to clarify how this might done. This has particular resulted in the "Law on protection of certain biological agents, delivery systems and related equipment", which in 2009 was followed by a corresponding decree.
Center for Biosecurity and Emergency Management has been appointed as the authority in the field with a right and duty to issue / revoke and to supervision. Permission is obtained, using approved security officer and based on approved application.
The legislation requires companies that possess the biological agents (all human pathogenic), means of delivery and related materials, to implement a system to prevent, recognize and respond to theft and misuse of these.
The Order determined which materials are covered by the Act. It is important to note that not only for biological agents, but also the facilities and equipment which may be included in non-biological contexts.
One may therefore easily be covered by the law on bio-security without working with biological agents.
