Biosecurity

Subpages are updated continuously in the event of changes in legislation, new executive orders, new agreements/contracts, etc.

What is biosecurity - and what is the difference between biosafety and biosecurity?

Biosecurity has to do with prevention of bioterror– i.e. the intentional and harmful release of biology. The focus is to prevent, detect and respond to any misuse or theft of knowledge or materials (often referred to as select agents or dual use items). Centre for Biosecurity and Biopreparedness is the national authority.

Biosafety has to do with occupational health and safety (OHS and EHA) and the focus is to prevent any laboratory accuired infection i.e. unintentional exposure/infection during work.

The means to obtain this are Good Laboratory Practises (GLP), risk assessment, containment, personal protective equipment, and in rare cases vaccination. Arbejdstilsynet is the national authority.
