Legally Based Postponement

You are entitled to postpone 5 weeks of your parental leave. The right to postponed leave can “be carried over” if you change jobs.

Key points to note regarding legally based postponement of parental leave:

  • The postponed leave must be taken before the child turns nine years old.
  • If you postpone leave, you cannot simultaneously extend the leave (to 40 or 46 weeks).
  • The postponed period (up to 5 weeks) must be taken in one continuous block.
  • You must notify your leave at least 8 weeks in advance by completing the form.
