Insurance during business travel
DTU is covered by the Danish government’s self-insurance scheme and is therefore self-insured in connection with business travel. The travel insurance scheme is administered by Europæiske Rejseforsikring on behalf of the Danish government. Here you can read about who is covered, when the coverage applies, and what you should be aware of before departure.
Who is covered?
All DTU employees, including permanent staff, temporary employees and PhD students, are automatically covered, provided that you have an active employment contract during the travel period. Externally funded industrial PhD students are only covered if the trip is paid for by DTU and the department has approved that the insurance applies.
When and where does the coverage apply?
The travel insurance coverage begins from the moment you leave your home or workplace to start a business trip, including weekends and local public holidays at the destination.
Coverage ends when you return to your home or workplace, or when the business trip ends.
Private holiday extensions in connection with a business trip are not covered.
As a general rule, the insurance covers all international travel. However, travel within the Danish Realm (Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands), as well as travel between Bornholm and the rest of Denmark via Sweden, is excluded. These trips are instead covered by DTU’s standard employer insurance.
Important information
- You must not purchase your own cancellation or medical travel insurance, as this is not permitted under the Danish government’s self-insurance scheme.
