Responsibilities and roles regarding a healthy and safe study environment

The Executive Board of DTU establishes the overall framework and operating conditions that enable DTU’s university units to comply with these policies and with the applicable working environment legislation.
The management of each university unit is responsible for ensuring that DTU’s policies and all relevant legislation are consistently followed and implemented at the local level within their respective areas.

At DTU, responsibility for ensuring a healthy and safe study environment is shared among several bodies, including the Corporate Work Environmental Committee (KAMU), the Study Environment Committee (SMU), and the Polytechnic Association (PF).
At the local level within individual university units, the primary stakeholders are the local working environment committees and the student councils , which are affiliated with PF.
In accordance with relevant legislation, two student representatives may serve on the Corporate Work Environmental Committee, and two student representatives may also serve on the working environment committees of the individual university units.
The role of a student representative is fulfilled by students who have the time and motivation to actively contribute to a positive study environment and who are accessible to their fellow students, enabling them to raise suggestions, concerns, and proposals for improving both the working environment and the study environment.

The Special Role of Teachers and Supervisors
Teachers, supervisors, and others responsible for students' learning are responsible for ensuring students' safety in connection with practical exercises and activities as part of their education.
This includes:

• Ensuring that work is planned, organized, and carried out in a manner that is fully safe and healthy.
• Critically assessing whether the physical conditions support safety and health, including whether premises, machinery, and other technical equipment are suitable for the activity.
• Ensuring that students receive adequate instruction and information about applicable rules and potential risks before the work begins.
• Assessing whether students have the necessary competencies and prerequisites to work safely.
• Ensuring that appropriate supervision of students is provided.

The Students’ Own Role
Students themselves share responsibility for safety within the study environment through their conduct and critical awareness. This includes carrying out risk assessments and following the instructions and guidance provided by teachers and supervisors.
