Furnishings and building projects
It is always important to take ergonomic factors into account when building and furnishing. This is particularly important and necessary in relation to major building projects, where one is rarely constrained and limited by existing conditions. It is in these situations that workstations can be brought up to contemporary standards, and known problems can be avoided.
These are the workstations of the future that are being designed and furnished, and it is therefore very important that this is done with a focus on the people who have to work and thrive in the new surroundings.
Ergonomic guidelines have been formulated for both office and laboratory environments. These guidelines outline the goals one should aim for when designing permanent workstations.
Office furnishings
Advice on office furnishings:
- make the most of the available space, avoid crowing in too much furniture
- plan major equipment replacement carefully
- consult with the work environmental organization and the ergonomics ambassador
- offices and individual workstations should be designed to promote variation in working positions.
- screen glare and reflections can be avoided by placing the screen at a slight distance from the windows, with a viewing angle parallel to the windows, and by taking into account the positioning of artificial lighting
- there should be at least 110 cm of depth behind the front edge of the desk
- the desk should be deep enough to leave room in front of the keyboard to rest the arms, and the screen should be about one arm's length away
- open-plan offices do not support all types of work
Building Projects
The most important advice in connection with building projects:
Involve CAS AB, the work environmental organization (arbejdsmiljoeorganisationen) and the ergonomics ambassador (Ergonomiambassadoeren) as early as possible in the process.
