Illness and absence for hourly paid employees

Sickness and Absence for Hourly Paid Employees

SUL; Teaching Assistants, Student Guidance Counsellors, and Student Assistants

Employees are entitled to their usual salary during illness. Salary during illness can be granted for a maximum of 3 months within 12 consecutive months. Illness may be required to be documented with a medical certificate.

Employees are entitled to full or partial leave to care for a sick child on the child’s 1st and 2nd sick day when:
a) the child’s situation makes it necessary,
b) work-related circumstances allow it,
c) the child is under 18 years of age, and
d) the child lives at home.

The employee receives a salary equivalent to the salary they would have received during illness.

To qualify for paid sick leave and paid leave on the child’s 1st and 2nd sick day, the employment must include an agreed employment period of at least 2 months, or a teaching load of at least 25 hours within a teaching year.

For teaching assistants and instructors who are fully employed elsewhere during the employment period, or who, including this employment, exceed a full-time workload, cancelled classes must, as far as possible, be rescheduled. Hours previously paid as sick pay cannot be paid again.

If employees work more than eight hours per week and are covered by the Danish Salaried Employees Act (funktionærloven), i.e., perform office work, the Act applies in addition.
