Submit a Notification of Invention
When you have made an invention, it is mandatory to submit a Notification of Invention (NoI) and email it to the patent administration office at DTU Technology Transfer: patentadm@dtu.dk.
Please note that all boxes must be filled in and that the NoI must be signed by all inventors and the innovation responsible at your Department. Remember that the invention must be patentable. Please see the tab "What is a patentable invention?".
The NoI is based on the KTH Innovation Readiness Level™ (IRL) model, which evaluates the maturity of invention according to six different dimensions. More information about the IRL model is available in the menu on the left. If you have any questions concerning the IRL model or how to fill in the NoI, please contact the Innovation Partner from DTU Skylab assigned to your department.
The terms 'author' (used in scientific papers) and 'inventor' (used in patents) are not synonymous, and an erroneously identified "inventor" can result in the final patent being invalidated. We therefore recommend reading the Guide: ‘Who is considered the inventor’ before you submit the NoI, to make sure the correct inventors are stated.
When we have received an NoI, DTU will decide whether to take over the rights to the invention within 2 months. If DTU decides to take over the rights to your invention, you and your invention can begin your start-up journey at DTU.
For more information about the patenting process, please refer to the tab "How we patent your invention"on the left.
If you have invented software with potential for commercial application, you must submit a Software Notification Form (SNF) via the innovation responsible at your Department.
