Travel and Research Stays Abroad

Students can apply for these travel grants:  

• Marie & M.B. Richters Fond:  supports study trips abroad for students within the fields of technique and mechanics.   
• William Demant Fonden : You can apply for your study or internship abroad (you have a bachelor degree).
• Tranes Fond:  You can apply for support to education, including studying abroad, within technical research and education.
• Nordea Fonden:  Students can apply for taking part of their education abroad.
• Otto Mønsteds Fond:  Students from DTU and CBS who go to another country to carry out a project together can apply.
• Henry og Mary Skovs Fond : You can apply for study trips abroad. Applicants have to be a bachelor.  
• Danish Data Science Academy : The purpose of the grant is to enable students within data science to engage in activity within the international data science community or do research stays abroad.  The grant covers costs for travel, accommodation, Visa fees and course/conference fees related to a planned scientific activity outside of Denmark.

Researchers and PhDs can apply for these travel grants:

• Ministry of Higher Education and Science : If you are a PhD student or post-doctoral candidate, you can apply for research stay at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) .
• Carlsberg Foundation : supports field trips and research stay abroad at foreign institutions (except research trips for PhD’s).
• Niels Bohr Fondet:  Scientists can apply for research stay abroad.
• Julie von Müllens Fond:  supports field trips or research stay abroad for scientists (only in exceptional cases for PhD students).
• Christian og Ottilia Brorsons Rejselegat :  They support your research stay abroad, if you are a younger scientist (at least bachelor degree).  
• Oda og Hans Svenningsens Fond: They can – among others - award study and travel grants for scientists, however, not to not PhD students.
• Danish Cancer Society:  If you are within the field of cancer research then you can apply for a research stay abroad (primarily for PhD students and postdocs).
• Canon Foundation: They grant fellowships for a research stay in Japan.
• Myhrwolds Fond:  They support study- and research stay abroad, primarily with the purpose to advance production. You can apply if you are a mechanical engineer or an engineer with affiliations to the machinery industry, are less than 40 years old, and graduated from DTU or AAU.
• Thomas B. Thriges Fond : Especially PhD students can apply for a research stay or studying aboard in the research fields micro waves and electro mechanics or similar. You can also apply for funding for conference participation to present your own research results. Industrial angle to the application.
• LEO Foundation Visiting Researcher:  The purpose of the LEO Foundation Visiting Researchers program is to stimulate a cohesive and agile skin research ecosystem by supporting temporary embedment of skin researchers in a foreign research environment with the aim of fostering genuine international collaborations and strengthening the exchange of knowledge, ideas, methodology, and technology between Danish and international skin research communities. A LEO Foundation Visiting Researchers grant can apply for a research visit of minimum 3 months. Applicants must be at or above postdoc level.
• Fabriksejer, civilingeniør Louis Dreyer og hustru Janne Myhrwolds Fond : Support for study/research stays and conference participation abroad, primarily with a focus on production-enhancing purposes. This support is intended for graduates in mechanical engineering and other engineers affiliated with the machinery industry who are under 40 years old and have been educated at DTU or AAU. Employees of DTU or AAU will be given high priority. The foundation does not provide support for M.Sc. or MBA education abroad or for diploma engineers who are already pursuing further studies to become civil engineers.

Both students and researchers can apply for these travel grants:

• Fulbright and Danmark-Amerika fondet: Denmark-America Foundation and Fulbright funds awards for research stay, studying or teaching in USA (for students, PhD-students and researchers). 
• Otto Mønsteds Fond :  You can apply for a stay abroad for study or practical training.
• Knud Højgaards Fond: They support study trips abroad for students, PhD students and postdocs. 
• IDAs og Berg-Nielsens Studie- og Støttefond: They support study trips abroad (education or research) for students, PhD students or other engineers.
• Kaj og Hermilla Ostenfeld’s Fond: The foundation supports engineers (primarily from DTU), who wishes to study in USA. You can apply for support for maximum 1 year at a recognized US university. The foundation is administered by DTU.
• P.A. Fiskers Fond: They support higher education for e.g. engineers, including for studying abroad. 
• Augustinus Fonden:  They support study trips abroad for students with bachelor or master degree. They only support grants for those having completed their degrees in Denmark.
• Fondet for Dansk-Svensk samarbejde : They support study and research stay in Denmark and Sweden for Danish and Swedish citizen. .  
• Reinholdt W Jorck og hustrus Fond : They support study or research stay abroad (minimum 3 months). Bachelor students cannot apply. 
• Fondation Idella:  Fondation Idella offers travel grants to students, PhD students, researchers and post-graduates in engineering from, among others, DTU. Please contact studielegater@adm.dtu.dk if you have any questions to Foundation Idella. 

Postdocs and more experienced researchers can apply for this travel grant:

• Dr. Phil. Ragna Rask-Nielsens Grundforskningsfond:  They support research stay abroad. Masters and PhD students cannot apply.

Faculty can apply for this grant:

• Novo Nordisk Foundation : The purpose of the RECRUIT Sabbatical grants is to support internationalisation by enabling transient embedment of university faculty in a foreign environment. The grants support university faculty in time-unlimited positions. This grant is both available for researchers at DTU going abroad and international researchers coming to DTU. All candidates for the RECRUIT programme are nominated by Danish universities. The candidate’s research focus must lie within the strategic research areas of the Natural and Technical Sciences or Biotechnology and Sustainability. A total of up to DKK 1 million is available per Sabbatical grant. The duration of the sabbatical can be up to 12 months.
