Healthy and safe study environment

A healthy and safe study environment lies at the interface between working environment and study environment, both legally and at DTU. A healthy and safe study environment is similar to what you might call the students’ ‘working environment’.

The Danish Working Environment Act and the Danish Educational Environment Act

Students are not covered by the Danish Working Environment Act, but by the Danish Educational Environment Act (Undervisningsmiljøloven). Students are also covered by the extended scope of the Danish Working Environment Act in relation to trainees and students, as described in a guide prepared by the Danish Centre of Educational Environment (DCUM). It applies when students perform practical exercises as part of their study programme, e.g. in workshops and laboratories. DTU follows DCUM’s recommendation that the same requirements as those applicable to employees are met in these cases as a minimum.

DTU’s working environment and study environment sub-policies

DTU has adopted working environment and study environment sub-policies which are directional for the occupational health and safety work and for the study environment at DTU as a whole. The students at DTU are covered by both the working environment sub-policy and the study environment sub-policy.

DTU aims to create a university environment for staff, students, and guests that ensures a working environment and a study environment that promote job satisfaction and creativity. DTU prioritizes a good university environment and therefore works determinedly to improve all aspects of both the working environment and the study environment on a continuous basis.
