Permanent workstation

If a given work area is a permanent workstation, which is usually the case for office workstations, it is subject to a number of space requirements under Danish legislation.

  • The room height must normally be at least 2.5 m
  • Floor space in a workspace must normally be at least 7 m2
  • The Danish Working Environment Authority's minimum requirement is 12 m3 of air volume for each employee, but more space may be necessary
  • There should generally not be less than 110 cm of depth behind the front edge of the desk.

Desks for PC Work

Desks must be adjustable in height to suit the given employee.

The size, shape and height of the desk must allow both forearms to rest on the desk surface.

Chairs for PC Work

Office chairs must match the body dimensions of the employee, offer the necessary adjustment options and be adaptable in relation to work duties and varying seated positions.

Armrests on chairs are not recommended as they can also get in the way.

Take note of which gas cartridge the chair is supplied with. Since office chairs are generally ordered for a particular employee, it is important to decide whether to order a low, normal or high gas cartridge.

CAS AB has selected some chairs, in collaboration with DTU Purchasing. The selected chairs meet the above conditions, as well as the Danish Working Environment Authority requirements.

IT equipment—screens, pointing devices and keyboards

The screen must be adjusted and positioned to suit the individual. It must be possible to tilt and turn the screen, and the image must not flicker. The position in relation to lighting is important. Sit a slight distance from the window to avoid glare and preferably such that the light enters from the side.

It must be possible to angle the keyboard, and it must be separate from the screen. If it is to be used with a RollerMouse or MouseTrapper, the front edge of the keyboard must be as narrow and straight as possible.

Pointing devices must be designed so that employees can use them with appropriate working positions and movements.

Using a laptop PC at a Workstation

Many DTU employees choose a laptop PC rather than a desktop PC these days, since the former offers the greatest work flexibility. But a laptop PC must not be used as a permanent workstation.
