Employees and managers can discuss salary expectations throughout the year in meetings, which either party can initiate.

If the parties (or one of the parties) wish to negotiate supplementary allowances, this can take place during the annual negotiation round.

At the end of the year, HSU discusses a framework announced by the executive management and a timeline provided by HR, within which the individual units can negotiate salary improvements, including supplementary allowances, based on DTU’s salary structures.

Corporate HR simultaneously prepares materials and supporting tools for the annual salary negotiation round at DTU, which takes place from January to June.

FAQ on salary negotiations

Your collective agreement determines who negotiates your salary.

At DTU, the main rule is that your union representative negotiates on your behalf.

If your authorized organization does not have a union representative at DTU, the union negotiates instead.

In some cases, you can negotiate your salary yourself due to the collective agreement.

Self-negotiators can negotiate their own salary but can also choose to be represented by a union representative or the union.

You can choose to negotiate your own salary if you are a union representative or classified as a Senior Officer, Senior Executive Officer, Journalist, Professor, or placed in salary group 4 (HK Office) or salary group 7 (HK Laboratory Technician), if your basic monthly salary exceeds 45,135 DKK (as of April 2024).

If you are a self-negotiator and have chosen to negotiate yourself, you will be invited to a salary negotiation meeting by the authorized manager or the director in your center.

You may want to contact your manager for more details.

See a list of union representatives at DTU.

If there is no local union representative in your unit, you should contact your union.

The collective agreement you are employed under determines your affiliation with an authorized union. Therefore, you always have either a local union representative or a union representing you, regardless of whether you are a member or not.

You should base it on the criteria in DTU’s salary structures.

There may be specific local criteria in your section or department. If needed, contact your manager for more information.
