General rules for pressure cylinders

Users of the cylinders must be in possession and familiar with the instructions for the gas, and appropriate safety equipment (gas masks, filters, etc.) must be available, see www.Kemibrug.dk.

The entrance to the premises where gas cylinders are used must be equipped with a warning sign, as shown in the picture.

Pressure cylinders must not be exposed to high temperatures, such as solar heat or radiant heat from ovens, etc. They must be placed in a vertical position and properly secured against overturning. Pressure cylinders may not be placed on cylinder cars, but must be bonded to non combustible material with an iron chain on the top third of the cylinder. Provide easy access to the cylinders, so they are easy to remove in case of fire.

Pressure cylinders must be equipped with a reduction valve, that fits to content and threading. Never use adapters or transition pieces. Always close the cylinder valve when work is completed. Cylinder valves must not be disassembled or lubricated.

There must be max 2-3 cylinders in a room, and only those who are actively in use. Storage of gas cylinders in laboratories, hallways or elsewhere are not allowed. Pressure cylinders must be stored in an approved cylinder depot.

Transportation of cylinders must only be done on the dedicated cylinder cars. Pressure cylinders must not be transported in elevators in company with people.

Special rules for:

  • Flammable and oxidizing gases must not be stored in the same room.
  • Flammable gases must be handled according to the ATEX guide of DTU.
  • Acetylene cylinders shall be provided with a rebound valve, and has to be inspected and checked once a year, or when the valve has been exposed to 5-6 setbacks. By simultaneous use of acetylene and oxygen a prior instruction is required (e.g. glass work, welding, soldering).
