Work in basements
There must be a sufficient supply of daylight and a view of the terrain in a workspace. See guide A.1.11 "Arbejdsrum på faste arbejdssteder" section 7 and 8. Generally, basement rooms at DTU do not meet the Danish Working Environment Authority's requirements for daylight and visibility, therefore, they can not be used as workspaces.
However, workspaces in the basement can be arranged without daylight access, where work takes place that does not allow daylight:
- Workspaces where light-sensitive products are handled
- Work functions where darkening of the workspace is required
There are a few exceptions to the requirement of daylight:
- Work in engineering corridors or technical rooms
- Depot, storage and archive rooms, where only loading and unloading of goods takes place
Dispensation
If you have activities in the basement that do not fall into the above categories, you can apply to the Danish Working Environment Authority for a dispensation to work in the basement without sufficient daylight. However, it is very difficult to get dispensation.
- The application must contain information about:
- Time period for the dispensation
- Why do you apply. An explanation of why you want to place the facility in the basement, and why it is not possible to establish daylight access to the room.
- Description of the premises (size, location).
- What kind of work is to be done.
- What equipment and chemicals to use.
- Which support functions to use.
- Planning the work (who will work there, number of hours, possible rotation).
- Other matters we must be able to vouch for - Working environment rules in general, emergency preparedness and building installations / Building regulations
