Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Many of DTU’s systems require multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect both DTU’s and your data. With MFA, you will periodically be asked to verify that it is indeed you logging in.
The key advantage of multi-factor authentication is that it prevents unauthorized access by requiring more than just someone knowing your username and password to gain access.
Before you can set up MFA, you need a working DTU login and a mobile phone.

Microsoft Authenticator App
At DTU, we use the Microsoft Authenticator App for verification, as it is a more secure solution than other alternatives. You need to download the app to your work phone or alternatively your personal phone.
SMS Verification
You can choose to receive a verification code via SMS. This will also serve as your backup in case you experience issues with the Microsoft Authenticator App.
Physical ‘Key’ with YubiKey
As an employee, you can order a YubiKey, which is a small physical device used for MFA instead of a mobile phone.
A YubiKey is ordered like other IT equipment. IT Support can reset the device so the institute can pass it on to another employee if needed.
If students have a personal YubiKey, IT Support can activate the option on the student’s account.

If you change the mobile phone where the Microsoft Authenticator App is installed, you must contact IT Support so they can reset your MFA. After that, you will need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator App again.
Resetting the Microsoft Authenticator App may also be necessary if you experience other issues with the app.
