Chemicals - Requirements for registration, chemical safety data sheets, and labelling
A wide range of chemical substances and products are used in DTU's laboratories, workshops, experimental halls, etc. The chemicals / products can also accompany the craftsman in the car or the researcher in connection with field work. Some chemicals are used in large quantities and often, while others are used in very small quantities and very rarely.
Requirements for registration
Regardless of quantity, all chemical substances or products, in use or in store, must be registered in Kemibrug. If requested by the Danish Working Environment Authority, a list of the available chemicals / products, including quantities, must be presented. This list can be extracted from Kemibrug.
Your chemicals will be registered in Kemibrug by your local Kemibrug Editor. It is advisable to record the max ordered quantity, so that it corresponds to the max stock capacity. It is also advisable to record the location of the chemical - e.g. Building xxx Room xxx or Car no xxx. Regularly, consider whether the stored chemicals or products are needed, and why.
Requirements for chemical safety data sheets
When handling chemical substances or products, a chemical safety data sheet from Kemibrug must be available. These chemical safety data sheets should be available to all employees. A physical copy is not required if the employee knows how to access Kemibrug. However, a paper version is required, when doing field work, as the internet may fail. If you choose to keep them in a single folder at the workplace, please remember to update the folder annually.
Your local Kemibrug Editor (or you yourself) can order a Kemibrug chemical safety data sheet. Please include a copy of the supplier's chemical safety data sheet, when ordering.
The difference between the supplier- and Kemibrug chemical safety data sheet:
When purchasing a chemical or product, a supplier's chemical safety data sheet is always included. The supplier's chemical safety data sheet does not always contain the information needed to prepare a chemical risk assessment, e.g. lacks information on how to work with the product and what personal and technical protective equipment is actually used, as well as how to dispose of the chemical waste. Furthermore, there are errors in about 40% of them. A Kemibrug chemical safety data sheet contains much of the missing information, qualifies the suppliers safety data sheet, and ensures that national legislation is implemented.
Based on information in the chemical safety data sheet, a chemical risk assessment must be prepared - see menu on the right. The employee must be thoroughly instructed in the chemical risk assessment.
Labeling requirements
All chemicals have a label where the possible hazard is described with hazard symbols, H and P phrases. The label must equal the one displayed in Kemibrug. Please remember to re-label the chemicals if Kemibrug is changing the label. Your Kemibrug Editor can help you.

When the danger of the chemicals is known, it is now possible to store the chemicals correctly and sign for the danger - see menu on the right. All hazard-labeled chemicals / products must be stored together in specially ventilated chemical cabinets to remove evaporation from harmful substances. Never use soda bottles, pickled glass, etc. for storage. Always use original packaging or other approved packaging.
