Employees may be given time off (time off with pay) to care for a sick minor child at home on the child’s first and second sickness day when the consideration for the child makes this necessary and the conditions at the place of employment allow this.

This type of absence is used if, for example, you have been absent for an extended period of time due to illness and an agreement is entered into between DTU and you on, for example, working fewer hours per day to ensure a gradual return to work. Requires an agreement between employee, department and Corporate HR. Please note that you are NOT to report fit for work to the municipality if you enter into such an agreement.

  • Care days, converted: This type of absence is used for the taking of care days that have previously been converted from untaken time off in lieu.
  • Care days, old rules: Ten care days per child. The days must be taken before the child turns 18.
  • Care days, new rules: Two days per child per year from the child's 0-7th calendar year. Untaken days will lapse at the end of the calendar year.

An employee is entitled to carers' leave for 5 working days each calendar year to provide personal care or support to his or her own children, parents, spouse or partner, or a person living in the same household as the employee and in need of essential care or support due to a serious medical condition. Carers' leave may be taken as a single period or as single days. The 5 days of carers' leave are unpaid.

Description

As a parent, you may be entitled to leave with unemployment benefits under the Maternity Act if a child is stillborn or dies before the age of 18. A parent can take grief leave with unemployment benefit for 26 weeks, i.e. 6 months.

Parents who have lost a child and who are on grief leave are entitled to paid grief leave. It is a prerequisite for the right to pay during mourning leave that the employer can receive reimbursement of unemployment benefit.
