Accompanying family members, non-Nordic/EU/EEA/Swiss citizens

If you have family and wish to bring them along to Denmark, they need to apply for a residence permit if they plan to reside in Denmark for more than three months or to work in Denmark.

Please find instructions on how to apply in the Family Guide.

If your family plans to stay in Denmark for less than three months and needs a visa, please find information about the visa application process by clicking this link.

If your family needs to have their permits extended, please find more information on how to apply in the Family Extension Guide.

Newborn baby
Please be aware that you must apply for an accompanying family permit for your child. An application must be submitted regardless of where your child is born. Please find more information on how to apply in the Family Guide.

Please note that DTU reimburses application fees for newborn babies born to international scientific staff ("VIP").

To apply for the residence permit, your child needs to have its own passport.

We recommend that you apply for a pink residence card even if it is not necessary.

If you need to travel outside Denmark and if your child does not have the pink residence card, you need to apply for a re-entry permit every time you leave Denmark.

To apply for a re-entry permit, please visit SIRI’s Citizen Centre and submit the application form TBT/SIRI. The re-entry permit is not subject to a fee and is given upon arrival.
