Extension of work and residence permits, non-Nordic/EU/EAA/Swiss citizens

If your position is extended or if your work and residence permit expires before your employment ends you need to apply for an extension of your permit.

If your permit expires due to the expiry date in your passport, please renew your passport before you apply for the extension of your work and residence permit.

You can apply for an extension no sooner than three months before your work and residence permit expires.

The HR coordinator automatically receives an extension letter from the HR Administration/PhD Administration which is to be used for the Danish work and residence permit application.

After receiving the extension letter, the HR coordinator sends you a guideline on how to apply for the extension.

The application processing time is approximately three months starting from the date the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) receives a fully completed application.

A fully completed application consists of:

DTU may reimburse the fee.

If you apply in time/before your current permit expires, you are allowed to continue working in your position while SIRI processes your application.

If you need to travel outside Denmark before you have received your pink residence card, you need to apply for a re-entry permit (in Danish: tilbagerejsetilladelse).

To apply for a re-entry permit, please visit the SIRI’s Citizen Centre and submit the application form TBT/SIRI (mangler en fil). The re-entry permit is not subject to a fee and is given upon arrival.
