Employed/enrolled PhD students, non-Nordic/EU/EAA/Swiss citizens

All employed and enrolled PhD students with a non-EU nationality must have a valid work and residence permit before they start working at DTU.

Corporate HR automatically receives an offer of employment/enrolment from the PhD Administration which is to be used for the Danish work and residence permit application.

Please note that PhD students need to be academically approved and the PhD Administration needs to have proof of passed master’s degree and funding for the full three years before the PhD Administration sends the offer.

Accompanying family members
If the employed/enrolled PhD student holds a residence and work permit, he/she can usually bring his/her family to Denmark.

Process at DTU
After receiving the offer of employment/enrolment, Corporate HR sends the new employee/enrolled PhD student a guideline on how to apply for a Danish work and residence permit.

The application processing time is approximately one month starting from the date the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) receives a fully completed application.

On this basis, we recommend to start up the application process approximately 2,5 months before the expected start date.

A fully completed application consists of:
