Evacuation procedures

DTU has a high focus on ensuring we have a safe and secure university. Therefore, DTU has a standard procedure for evacuating buildings.

Evacuation procedures at DTU

Subpages are updated continuously in the event of changes in legislation, new executive orders, new agreements/contracts, etc.

However, evacuation may - in some cases - be different if there are special conditions in workshops or laboratories, so evacuation instructions will be given locally.

The evacuation procedure applies to all students, employees, and guests at all DTU’s sites.

Watch the video above and learn how to safely and quickly evacuate in case of, for example, fire, hazardous substance releases, or other unique hazards.

It is essential that evacuation drills are run regularly at DTU’s buildings. The exercises must ensure practising of safe and quick evacuation in case of, for example, fire, hazardous substance releases or other unique hazards.

All buildings must conduct exercises annually

At least one evacuation exercise must be carried out annually at all buildings periodically or continuously housing more than 50 persons.

The users of the building must organize the evacuation exercise. If there are more university units in the same building, they must organize the exercises together.

The evacuation exercise is managed by the units emergency facilitator, who is appointed from among the members of the occupational health and safety organization.

It is the responsibility of the local management to ensure the implementation of the annual exercises.

Evacuation exercises from joint areas are carried out by CAS Service Center.

It is optional whether you want to keep announced or unannounced exercises. However, when conducting unannounced exercises, please ensure that no persons in the building are doing experiments or other activities they cannot leave. In this case, be sure to inform these individuals about the time of exercise.

Find knowledge about exercise planning and the associated network if you have been designated as the unit's Emergency facilitator.
