When you are an employee at DTU

As a DTU employee, you are part of a large community of 5,800 employees with a shared commitment to developing and creating value and using the natural and technical sciences to benefit society.

We are involved in education, research, scientific advice, and innovation on a daily basis in keeping with our three fundamental values: credibility, innovative thinking, and commitment.

DTU as a workplace offers great flexibility, scope for development, and freedom with responsibility. DTU makes demands and presents opportunities, no matter where in the organization you may be working and whether you are a member of the scientific staff (VIP) or the technical/administrative staff (TAP).

Employment terms

DTU is a financially autonomous university, which means that DTU despite the autonomy aspect is subject to the framework for public administration. In relation to your employment, this affects how your work is carried out and certain terms of employment.

DTU is also covered by the Danish Government's collective agreements. In general, your position determines which collective agreement you are covered by.

In addition to the applicable legislation and collective agreements, DTU also has an HR policy with related sub-policies and guidelines. You can read more about the agreed conditions in the HR Policy.

Code of conduct

When you are employed at DTU we expect you to follow the guidelines for good practice that you can find in the left-side menu or at the bottom of this page.

If you are a research employee

DTU’s research employees have to follow The Danish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity and principles for good Scientific conduct at DTU, the law on inventions at public research institutions, the Danish Marketing Practices Act and cooperation agreements for the individual projects.

Good administrative practice

As a public employee at DTU you must respect the public sector’s fundamental values such as the rule of law, openness, integrity, independence, and impartiality in the performance of tasks, and you are responsible for administering tasks in accordance with ‘good administrative practice’.

Generally speaking good administrative practice is exhibited by acting politely, showing consideration, and behaving in a manner that strengthens the confidence in public sector administration.

The guide 'Code of conduct in the Public Sector’ refers to a number of fundamental conditions and rules which are to contribute to avoiding cases that may raise doubt – in society and the media – about public employees’ conduct. DTU expects employees and managers at DTU to meet the requirements and principles for, among other things, the code of conduct, which is described in more detail in the guide.
